The Multi-Use Pavilion

The pavilion being designed by the Jamboo team will feature a great arena, on the scale of Jamaica’s cane fields, mountains, and ocean, that is meant to supplant the great houses of the plantation era and serve as a rebuttal to that past.

The arena will be made from natural full culm bamboo (round), and will stand as a symbol of the new economy. It will span 125’, the longest bamboo span in the world, soar to a height of 145’, and will be a multi-use space with a capacity of 5000 seats. Jamaica is lacking this size indoor arena, a facility that would benefit the country’s music, entertainment, and religious cultures. When not in use as a performance space, the structure will provide space for thriving markets and other large gatherings. The overarching vision of the stadium is as a national place of pride, reclaiming Jamaica’s past, honoring its present, and looking to its future. Tons of carbon will be stored by this effort.

Building this great structure will accelerate the creation of a new supply chain. Along with imported engineering and craft expertise, it will necessitate the creation of local bamboo treatment facilities, the planting of bamboo farms, and the training of bamboo craftspeople.
